Job Description: THE OPPORTUNITY The Senior Director, Unified Social Media is a leadership role within Scholastic’s Digital Services team, responsible for shaping and executing the enterprise-wide organic social media strategy. This leader will drive audience engagement, strengthen brand equity, and support business growth by building bold, creative, and data-informed approaches to social storytelling. Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, this role leads the Unified Social Media team—the center of excellence for Scholastic’s organic social channels. Working across divisions and brand portfolios (from the Hunger Games series to the Clifford PBS show), the Senior Director will define the strategic direction for organic social, oversee executional excellence, and ensure content aligns with Scholastic’s mission, business goals, and customer needs. Scholastic’s Digital Services team is focused on building a modern digital ecosystem that strengthens connections with customers and unlocks digital growth. The Senior Director will play a key role in advancing that mission through social content that inspires, informs, and engages millions of teachers, parents, and readers. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic, creative, and collaborative social media leader to shape how one of the world’s most trusted brands shows up on social. The role is based in the NYC office and requires being in the office three days per week. RESPONSIBILITIES Define and Execute Social Strategy: Lead the development and execution of a bold, enterprise-wide organic social media strategy that drives brand awareness, engagement, and traffic by defining channel roles, content strategies, and audience approaches across key platforms Reputation & Community Management: Oversee brand safety, customer trust, and real-time engagement by establishing clear community management guidelines, moderation protocols, and escalation paths. Monitor sentiment, respond to customer inquiries, and coordinate with PR and Communications teams to manage risk, protect reputation, and build lasting relationships with audiences. Lead Creative & Editorial Direction: Oversee the editorial vision and creative direction for organic social, ensuring platform-native storytelling, timely and differentiated content, and visual excellence Drive Analytics & Optimization: Own and optimize the performance of organic social through robust KPI frameworks, platform analytics, and content insights, translating data into strategic recommendations in partnership with the Digital Analytics team Manage and Scale a High-Performing Team: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of social strategists and content creators while fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and accountability Social Innovation & Thought Leadership: Drive platform innovation and thought leadership by staying ahead of emerging trends, technologies, and content formats, testing new approaches such as short-form video, social commerce, and creator collaborations. Qualifications HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proven ability to lead and scale social media strategies across multiple brands, platforms, and audiences in a large organization. Strong editorial judgment and creative instincts, with a deep understanding of platform-native storytelling and audience engagement best practices. Experience managing high-performing teams, inspiring creativity, and partnering across marketing, PR, and lines of business. Fluency in social media performance metrics, platform insights tools, and digital customer behavior to inform strategy and iterate content. Experience: 10+ years in digital or social media marketing, with at least 5 years leading strategy and execution at the enterprise or multi-brand level. Experience in publishing, media, education, or consumer brands preferred. Familiarity with social listening and enterprise management platforms, such as Sprinklr Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
