The Social Media Manager works to advance the reputation of the Firm by building and governing a multi-channel social media program that aligns with and supports the Firm’s strategic growth objectives and brand. As part of the Communications and broader Client Development and Engagement (“CD&E”) team, this role is charged with raising the profile of the Firm, its practices and lawyers through savvy use of LinkedIn, YouTube, X, and emerging platforms. This includes developing and executing strategies to support the Firm, practice areas, offices, and individual partners; collaborating with lawyers, CD&E teams, and Firm professionals to create social-first content from idea to final approval; codifying best practices and policies and coaching partners and staff on their application; and providing monitoring, research, and data analysis to assess the impact of our social media engagement and content. Importantly, this role is responsible for ensuring that our high standard of excellence and relevant policies and guidelines are consistently reflected in the social media activity of the Firm and its lawyers. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities Strategy & leadership Develop a global social media strategy and success metrics informed by the Firm’s strategic growth objectives and designed to enhance our overall brand presence Develop the strategy to build a fully scoped, modern social media program geared towards priority audiences across multiple geographies and time zones Track and report progress; provide readouts to Firm leadership as needed. Collaborate with relevant partners, practice management, and CD&E teams to create integrated social media plans and enhance thought leadership for priority practices, important Firm events (office openings, milestone anniversaries) and other content. Keep abreast of Firm, business and industry developments, as well as social media industry trends, tools and regulations (e.g., attorney marketing rules, ABA ethical behavior guidelines and Firm policies); proactively identify potential areas for new engagement and/or issues of non-compliance. Implement processes and tools to monitor and manage potential reputation risks; work with senior CDE and other functional leaders to develop and execute plans and protocols for use in emergent situations. Track, measure and analyze Firm metrics against industry benchmarks; develop reports recommendations for continued enhancement Content creation & campaigns Lead the development and execution of social-first content and integrated social and digital campaigns in collaboration with Communications and Client Engagement teams—translating the Firm’s market-leading work, thought leadership and successes into compelling storytelling that strengthens brand visibility across social media platforms. Ensure all digital content is of the highest quality and reflects the Firm’s voice, tone, and visual identity, delivering a consistent and differentiated brand experience for clients, recruits, alumni, and other key stakeholders. Embed a creative and innovative approach to social media content; proactively seek ideas and craft copy and supporting graphics for Firm social media accounts liaising with CDE colleagues and the graphics team as needed. Embed appropriate platforms and tools that enable Simpson Thacher to maintain an efficient, future-proofed social media offering. Attend Firm events as needed to facilitate the development of social media content. Create website content including partner biographies and share news of awards and other Firm developments. Building & scaling capabilities Prepare updates featuring social media content highlights to facilitate employee content sharing and engagement (e.g., Clearview Social). Perform research and analysis on the social media profiles and content of prospective and scheduled speakers at Firm events Assist in developing and delivering training materials and other educational content to empower lawyers across the Firm with best practices for using social media effectively while minimizing risk Community engagement Identify opportunities for meaningful engagement with STB audiences through social media platform Develop and foster relationships with peers, strategic partners, and industry influencers to help stay abreast of new technology and best practices for fostering a culture of innovation Education: Required Bachelor’s degree required Preferred Major in Communications, Digital Marketing, English, Marketing, Advertising or related field preferred Skills and Experience: Required Minimum 7 years of experience, with 3+ years of relevant digital communication or copywriting experience, preferably within the legal, financial and/or other professional services industries Ability to develop compelling social and visual story telling content on highly technical subjects and to assess target platforms, audience behavior and voice tone through research-driven insights Strong project management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize and balance competing demands and manage multiple projects concurrently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment Ability to develop buy-in, interact well and build professional relationships with key stakeholders while maintaining a high level of customer service, diplomacy and discretion Strong problem solving and analytical skills to make sound decisions, escalating as appropriate Ability to assess needs, assign priorities, develop strategies and make recommendations when presented with ambiguous or incomplete information Proficiency in using social media, media monitoring, design software and other creative applications (Clearview Social, LinkedIn analytics, Meltwater, Canva, Quark, Photoshop). Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; superior attention to detail Excellent research and analytical abilities Ability to anticipate business challenges of partners and senior team members and proactively address needs with self-assuredness and business acumen Must be flexible and willing to work additional hours as needed Preferred Prior experience developing social media content Basic photography and video filming and editing experience Salary Information NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $170,000 to $190,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
